Writing Prompt Maker

Free writing time, and half the class is staring at a blank page. You pick the genre (narrative, persuasive, recount, information), the year level and a theme. Out comes a prompt page with a big picture to write about, three or four sentence starters and a word bank down the side, with lined space underneath. Print it on A4 and it gives the stuck kids a way in without writing the story for them. Use the same theme with a different genre for the next session so the class sees how the same picture can become a story, an argument or a report.
